synology access denied

I have some Docker containers up and running on my 1618+ but I'm trying to create some containers via SSH to set some variables that aren't exposed via Synology's GUI. Im a computer luddite, so need a reasonably complete explanation (and have found the ones in this thread comprehensible). I solve by enabling NTLM1 on Synology, but this represents a security issues.
